Done building, but no bootup. =(
So I've got everything in. I have 3 case fans, and the CPU fan plugged in. 1 Case fan works, the other doesn't (but the LED comes on, so I know it's powered.). The CPU fan starts up, but then I have no display. I plugged my LCD monitor into an adaptor (needed to go from the plug to the 7800 GT video card.) Video card is powered, fan spins. Then that's it. Some fans spin, and lights light up. I left it running for 20 seconds once, and it auto shut off. Any suggestions?

So witch fan isnt running, it could be a sign of overheat, or the power supply is dying. since few fans dont work isupposed their on diffrent cabbles, what i would do firstly is disconnect all thats not necessary (HD, opticals) then try with that.

The fan not running is the rear exhaust fan on the case.

Alright so I plugged in the cpu, cpu cooler, PSU, RAM, and video card. and that's it. Gave a PSU plug to the video card and the cpu cooler. tried both inputs (back of the vid card) with the LCD, and nothing. Again, both the cpu and video card fans spin.

Did you take the motherboard out of the case like Dark Nova suggested (in the link)?
You are trying to see if the motherboard is shorting out with the case and the motherboard must be out of the case for this to work.

Just did it. Took it out, and my monitor still goes into 'power save mode' when i turn it on.
MB is on the box next to the case. Only thing that's touching the case is the PSU wires, but that's cause it's still mounted, and those shouldn't short the MB anyway. Not even using the power switch, just shorting it with a key (non magnetic worry not) Last edited by TiredTendencies; 12-23-2005 at 01:03 AM. |

Alright, the next step would be to list all your parts by brand and model.

By the way, my case doesn't have a speaker nor do i have one, but it's a freakinshly new mobo, and there is a 'buzzer' on it, so i'm assuming i'd hear beeps from that. I fear that something is wrong with my CPU and that would be very bad since i'm leaving this house on the 8th =(

If you plugged your fans into the "fan only" plugs on the power supply then they will be cntrolled by the power supply's fan controller. Try plugging them into regular 4-pin connectors and see if that works.

Where are you at right now in your troubleshooting of this problem?
Is the motherboard still out of the case? What's connected to the motherboard? Any beeps from the on-board piezo speaker? Everything plugged in that needs to be plugged in? All motherboard power connections? Video power connection? Cricket
