Question Noob needs help

Hi guys i have purchased all my components and a friend said to start with a basic setup. I was told to assemble the mobo outside the case to test it just fitting the cpu, ram and gfx card. I am worried about doing this as i don't know what to place the mobo on while i do this. Last thing i want to do is short the board by putting it on the wrong surface. My spec is as follows

Asus A8n sli premium
AMD 4400 X2
Inno3d 7800gtx
Corsair xms 1024 pc3200 (2 gig in total)
Western Digital 74 gig raptor
hitachi Deskstar 250 gig sata 2
Nec dvd burner
Sony floppy
Thermaltake tsunami dream case
Thermaltake Silent Purepower 560w psu

thanks in advance for any help.

Use the box the motherboard came in....just keep the anti-static bag clear.
