Whats wrong?!
This is my first build, it has a 120GB ATA/133 Maxtor HDD, Intel Pentium 4 2.4Ghz socket 478, Epox 4vkmi, 300watt antec psu, NEC DVD ROM drive, 512MB X 2 Corsair value select.
I have been trying to figure out why the system keeps turning off when i try to install windows xp home(now legal copy). What happens is that in the systems BIOS windows xp will run and then when it says starting windows (still in BIOS) you can hear the system stop running the dvd drive then the screen will flash from the windows install screen to a black screen then a blank blue screen, then the computer turns off. And i believe when the blank blue screen shows its supposed to show something more about the setup for windows, but it doesnt. I have configured the boot up to cd rom, then hard drive, if that helps. and also, i know everything is working properly, nothing is dead or not functioning properly. I have the hdd setup as primary master, and dvd drive as secondary master. Could it possibly be that something isnt hooked up on the mobo? or what? and btw, do i need jumpers on the hdd? If the drive cables are 80 wire, it might work better to set the drives to cable select(CS). Blue connector to mobo, black is master and gray is slave.

You don't need priority jumpers on a SATA drive. Check to make sure the heatsink and fan are properly installed and that you are getting good fan rpm read-outs in the motherboard BIOS.

Also, how do you know everything is working properly? Have you ran the memory set before? kram

i agree, i'd also stay in the bios and let it run for a minute and check your temps and fan speeds to be sure nothing is overheating and it's staying stable. do all the fans spin when it powers on right away?

whats a good example of a fan speed and temp? i think the temp is some where around 85C, for my processor, and i think the system temp is about 30C
