I am using a 300atx power supply. When I turn the power on, the fans go but the Monitor displays the message 'please check the signal cable'.I dont get any beeps at all. What brand power supply is that? Is it an ATX2 spec model, with the 24 pins required by your motherboard?
A common cause of no display is forgetting to connect the extra 4 pin 12v power connector. It will be near the CPU, if your motherboard requires it. Freakitchen

The 4-pin 12v auxillary power connector is for Intel based motherboards as Intel CPU's require more voltage. Is there an extra power socket on the video card? Some Radeons require a lot of juice to work properly. It could also be the PSU as Freakitchen mentioned.

That's not true...I just built an AMD computer today and it used the extra 4 pin. In fact that was for the AMD 64 3200+. But yeah check what they said.

The power box is 'Hyena' model- DR-B300ATX. The power connection is 20 pins, the m/board has 24. the guide book says,'you may use the 20 pin ATX power supply as you like.......plug your power supply along with pin 1 & pin 13. This is what I have done. Also the 4 pin 12v power connector is in its place.
The Radeon card does not show or say that it needs a power connector, only put it into a x16 express slot and then screw the card in place. webbie

That's not a good idea. The first thing I would do is replace that with a quality ATX 2.0 (24 pins) power supply. Even if that isn't the problem, you'll be better off. The extra 4 pins are there for a reason.

As I read more into the power supply , I read' MSI Reminds you...power supply of 350 watts(or above) is highly recommendedfor system stability.'
Could this be the problem? webbie

Most definitely. Low quality units like that never really put out the voltage they are rated at. As the temperature inside them increases, actual power output decreases. This will be compounded by the fact that you're not using the 24 pins.
Definitely replace that with an ATX2 unit, i'd prefer to see a 420w model in there. Double and triple check that your RAM and video card are fully seated in their slots. Freakitchen |

I have now put in a TASK 450 watt(model TK-945TX-DF), but now I have 4 second cycle of --1 second beep - 3 second silence -- on a continuded cycle. I am told that this is something to do with Rams. The ram I am using is 1 stick of 512mb DDR400. Am I on the right track.

Spiderweb, I am having the same problem! My computer's monitor displays "NO SIGNAL" when I try to start it up. I have tried HAL9000's advice, but to no avail. Check out my post for more information on my system. I think that it means there is something wrong with your video card, because my motherboard says that it recognizes my RAM!

I have now gone to almost the start.
On my w/bench I have a m/board, added a CPU, with a 24 pin power supply. Nothing else, but I still get a 4 second cycle.(1sec. long beep-3sec. quiet) So its not rams and its not a vidoe card.
