Hey guys I upgraded my CPU and video card last night, however I got the typical no display on monitor error. I went from a 2.4 P4 to a 3.2 P4 without flashing my bios. However a friend tried putting in a 1.8 P4 and the computer still would not boot.
So today we took the mobo out of the case, laid in on a cardboard box, hooked up the CPU, RAM, and vid card. Still no luck, all the fans turn but no display still, also the LED on the mobo turns on as well. An interesting note is that when we did this we did not have to short out the switch, as soon as we turned the PSU on the computer powered up. I also tried the cardboard box trick without the CPU and I couldnt even get anything going. Whats my next step guys? RMA the board? How does that work? It is an Intel D865PERL mobo. Also I realised I am on my friends account, he is also having issues with his computer...just an added note. Last edited by dills84; 12-23-2005 at 08:50 PM. |

Does the Mobo give you any beep codes?

The mobo isnt hooked up to any speakers at the moment. Also I went out andbought an ABIT mobo, put the CPU and vid card in and it still wont send a signal to the monitor. Where do I go from here guys? Does this sound like a hardware issue, or a BIOS/ software issue?

May want to look at the PSU as a possible problem. A PSU starting by itself means that the supply is bad or the mother board and since you replaced the mobo-PSU.

We tried 2 PSU's and nothing worked. I also hooked up my headphones to the mobo, but I did not hear any beeps. Would it be wise to take my CPU, RAM, and vid card and test them in a friends computer...or is it possible that if one of these parts is bad it will ruin his syetm as well? |

One thing to try before getting more parts is clearing the BIOS. Pull the CMOS battery for a few minutes and put back in.
Since you have tried different PSU, CPU, Video cards, and mobos, next thing to look at is the ram or drives as problem areas. |

well i am at my friends house on his laptop at the moment. we just took my computer parts and had it running off his new PSU. He is giving me the old PSU to test my parts out at home. So right now im thinking the PSU has a 90% likelyhood of being the culprit, and the mobo about 10%
Ill post any updates I have. Thanks for everyones help as usual. |
