Hey. So.... I've been browsing these forums for about 2 hours, with various searches like "$1000 AMD Gaming" as recommended by the stickies. However, the volume of available parts and configurations is pretty much ridiculous. You look at one thread, and somebody posts their setup, and somebody says, "Hey, that power supply is terrible" and then they carry on for a while and you never see a final product that says to me: This system is near-perfect for the cost.
I'm looking to spend under 1000 dollars, on basically the essential parts. I can supply the whole kb/mouse and monitor type parts. Onboard sound is fine... a cheap speaker system about 40 bucks is fine. Basically, I just want a good case, power supply, mobo, cpu, ram, and video card. Something that for the most part, everyone realizes is cost effective and good enough for high-ish settings on current games. Browsing newegg basically makes my eyes bleed, so if someone were willing to just toss your idea of the "best" amd gaming computer for under 1000, I would probably take your word for it and not argue. I realize that I'm probably taking a pretty lazy route, but hey, I'm on the internet right now. Thanks.

OK first your CPU, if your going with AMD, go with Athlon, or dual core if you have enought money. Asus mobos are very good, i sugest you get one few PCI-slots, cause it can always come in handy. i have the A8N-sli deluxe, a very good mobo by asus. i would also sugest getting a sli-capable mobo for future use(if your going to add another videocard). For the Ram, "Kingston" or "Corsaire" are the best choice to go with, id say 1GB. For the case, thats a matter of preferences. i really liked the Sonata by Antec (ANtec makes really good cases). other then that, you have to chose. the powersupply, well that also depends, if your going to go sli in the future, id get a sli-certified powersupply, if not, get a good quality powersupply such as Antec, make sure you have a minimum of about 450W. The Video card is the most important thing for a gamer, so all the money you save on the otherparts, put it on the video card.
good luck

Since i do not currently know how much $1000 is in £ i cant help on price. But if you are going for gaming try the GeForce 7800 or 6600 series cards. i have a 6600 and it is perfect. Only gor for SLI if you are an extreme gamer. as for mobo's try this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813127197
Only if you dont want SLI though. |

Here's what you can consider, got all the parts you wanted, wasn't sure if you already had optical drives (harddrive/dvd burner/cd burner/ect) so I left them out.
AMD + ATI Build MOBO: ASUS A8R-MVP Socket 939 ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 CrossFire ATX AMD CrossFire Motherboard - Retail - $139 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131584 RAM: CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail - $76.25 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145440 PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail - $228 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103539 Video Card: ASUS EAX1800XL/2DHTV/256M Radeon X1800XL 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail - $359.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121547 Power Supply: XCLIO XCLIO-550BL ATX 550W Power Supply 115V/230V UL, CUL, TUV, CB, VDE, FIMKO, DEMKO, NEMKO, SEMKO - Retail - $74.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817189001 Case: Thermaltake XASER, Armor Series VA8000BWS Black Aluminum/Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail - $149.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133154 TOTAL: $1027.23 (USD) Went alittle over, but only 27usd, but if it bothers you, I'm sure you could drop the processor for a 3500+ or the graphics card for maybe a X800XL or X850 PRO. The case looks pretty cool, and I hear it's pretty good for cooling. Guess all you need is (if you don't have already) Western Digital's Raptor at 10k RPM (going for around 156 usd), which allows you to load things quicker (ex: game maps). Now, if your more of a AMD + Nvidia guy, I guess you could consider this.. MOBO: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail - $163 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131540 RAM: CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail - $76.25 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145440 PROCESSOR: AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail - $228 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103539 Video Card: eVGA 256-P2-N517-AX Geforce 7800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail - $319 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130249 Power Supply: XCLIO XCLIO-550BL ATX 550W Power Supply 115V/230V UL, CUL, TUV, CB, VDE, FIMKO, DEMKO, NEMKO, SEMKO - Retail - $74.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817189001 Case: Thermaltake XASER, Armor Series VA8000BWS Black Aluminum/Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail - $149.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133154 TOTAL: $1011.23 (USD) Alittle over again, but not much of a difference compared to the ATI build, but if you want both builds 1000 and below, I'll change them. Hope these can give you an idea of what you want. ;p |
