Trouble building new computer

Hey Ive already installed the processor and memory but Im having trouble installing the Mobo. I already got the brass standoffs in but I dont know which screws to use to fasten the motherboard down. One of the screws is small, and the other is larger with a washer attached. Any clue which one to use?

I believe you want to use the larger one, with the washer on it.

definitly The smaller screw. Do you have an Antec case, usaly those big screws with washers are for HDs

You could probably use either one. I'm using the large ones because anything else was too long. As long as it holds the motherboard down and isn't going to short the motherboard, it'll work.

i guess so, ive never used big screws for mobos, usaly the case should come with these gold hoders to put screws in. Thats for the mobo and use smaller screws. Whats is the name of your case, brand and model?

Also make sure the mobo s straight inside the case

Which do you have the most of that is probably the one..useually about 8-9 screws...Be care full handling the MB when you seat it in place and are putting the paralell and serial ports through the metal piece that has the cutouts for them.........................

I have an antec sonata 2. There are about 15 larger screws, and 20+ smaller ones. I used the larger ones but I dont know if it looks right. It doesnt screw all the way down to the board, but it still holds it in place.

Small screws for Sonata, there are 2types of small screws so watch out, small with lots of rolls for opticals and the small with few roles for mobo, big ones like that shown in the pics are for HD.

i dont know about you blue, but with the Antecs id sugest the original way. besides these bigs screws were made to hold the HD, if you put another HD, you will miss screws

Yeah, you're right...I've got quite a handful of those smaller screws...those would work too. Oh well, I'm not worried about mine, cause like I said, it works, and I've got enough of those bigger screws to do the other two hard drives (two in system).

I have an Antec Sonata II also, the picture shown from the quoted post shows a HDD screw, it is shouldered in order to go through the rubber grommets/sound deadener that the HDD mounts to in this case. Look carefully at the small screws that look as if they have a built in small washer (actually a part of the head)....there are two sizes provided with this case. You want the courser thread screws to use with the brass standoffs. The threaded portion is the same size as the HDD screws. The slightly smaller diameter finer threaded ones will not tighten properly. Been their done that, bought the "T-shirt" LOL.

The screw should go all the way to the MB and be able to tighten but don't overtighten ....looks like those are the wrong ones the HD screw sometimes has a small ruber washer
