I have a cardboard box that is filled with old IDE cables that i yanked from a bunch of old computers.
What is the proper way to store a used IDE cable so that the IDE cables will not be damaged and can be resued for a future project? I think I may have damaged some of my old IDE cables because I never bother to tied them up with a rubber band or flatten them or whatever before I toss them in a box for storage. can a IDE cable get damage when something heavy is tossed on a pile of loose IDE cables laying in the bottom of a box.... |

Absolutely anything heavy on the cables or connectors can damage them ....Roll them up and put a rubber band around them.....

how tight should the rubber band be around the IDE cable ?
what kind of rubber band ? i know it is a dumb question but I gotta asked it. Will a rubber band cut into the IDE cable if the band is too tight around the cable? |

I fold my IDE cables in half and then in half again and use GB ties, pulled snug, to hold them

Roll up the cable and just get any ordinary house rubber band and put it around the cable just tight enough to hold it in place so it won't come undone
