Cheap build, take a look?
HI, thanks for reading.
I'm building a computer for someone, trying to keep things relatively cheap, but I still want to get decent hardware that won't have to be replaced right away. We will be using a lot of parts from an old Gateway P3. Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA133 Hard Drive, An old CD-RW, DVD-ROM, Soundblaster LIve! 5.1, floppy. I think that's it. Not concerned about the beige drives as the case selected has a door. My main concern is if anyone has seen these parts fail, or if they have a better idea of a better part for same or similar cost. Case, RAIDMAX Horizon ATX-287WB Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail $39.99 PSU, Thermaltake TR2 W0070 ATX 430W Power Supply 115/230 V - Retail $39.99 Motherboard, ASUS K8N Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $63.00 or, ASUS K8V-MX Socket 754 VIA K8M800 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $62.00, undecided about the chipset, I have an A7V8X and have had absolutely no problems with the VIA chipset. CPU, AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 800MHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 754 E6 Processor - Retail $139.00 Memory, either 2 Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory - Retail $38.85 or 2 GeIL Value 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory - OEM $40.31 Going with this for the OS Microsoft Windows XP Home With SP2 - OEM $93.95 Approx total = $ 450.00 Comments, questions, suggestions? Thanks, Mark.

If they plan on doing some gameing i would get a Geforce 6600 or Geforce 6600gt or a good ATI VGA. I would go with kingston value Ram i had a stick of it in my comp now they work good. but everything looks good to me.

Sorry, forgot to mention the video card that we allready have for it.
PNY GeForce FX 5500 PCI Dual VGA + S-Video. He bought that the other day for $40.00. Going with the Kingson RAM, and going with the nvidia chipset K8N. Ordering parts tomorrow unless anyone has a better idea. I really don't expect it to make my order any faster if I place it today since it's Christmas. You might want to change the RAM to Corsair Value Select. Been hearing and seeing lots of problems with Kingston Value RAM recently.

Talked to the other guy about Corsair, he said he's never ran anything other than Kingston, and has never had any bad luck, I guess we'll give it a shot. Hopefully their recent product will be just as good.
Just ordered everything. 1 CASE RAIDMAX|ATX-287WB 0W RT - Retail Item #: N82E16811156041 $39.99 $39.99 1 MB ASUS K8N NF3-250 754 - Retail Item #: N82E16813131512 $63.00 $63.00 1 POWER SP|430W(P4)W0070RUC RTL - Retail Item #: N82E16817153023 $39.99 $39.99 1 CPU AMD 64 |3000+ ATHLON 64 RT - Retail Item #: N82E16819103606 $139.00 $139.00 2 MEM 512M|KST D400 KVR400X64C3A/512 - Retail Item #: N82E16820141424 $38.85 $77.70 1 MS WIN XP HOME w/SP2 SINGLE PACK % - OEM Item #: N82E16837102059 $93.95 $93.95 1 Discount FOR 11-998-108&00-999-137 Subtotal: $A lot 453.63 Tax: $0.00 Shipping: $55.56 Grand Total: $Too Much. 509.19 More than I originally wanted to spend, but as long as I don't do this every month. It's going to be a late Christmas gift for someone. I original was only going to buy a nice PSU, but then needed to get a different case, then I didn't want to put that old board in the new case, then of course I had to get a cpu and ddr ram. Then of course I used this as an excuse to get myself XP SP2. Still using the old XP SP1 install with the free update cd from M$. So I guess only $350 is for the gift, the rest is for me and UPS.
