Problems booting

Ive just finished my PC Build and everything is working right. I hope lol. But one problem, I just configured my bios and have tried booting. I am booting from a CD (Windows XP Pro). But when i try to boot up, i always get this error message saying, Please Configure a Boot-Up Devie/Put in the boot up disk and press any key. I made sure and went into the BIOS boot-up and set my CD drive as the 1st boot up device. And i made sure that my OS is in the drive. Why isnt it reconizing my Boot up cd/device?

Is the optical drive recognized by the BIOS?

What kind of optical device is it? IDE or SATA?

Yes it does reconize the device
During the IDE Reconize it lists the brand and model of my cd drive
but in the bios when i select it it says ATAPI CD ROM
is that normal? Should it say ASUS? The brand of my cd drive

And yes it is a IDE

How many optical drives do you have? If you have two, did you try putting the WinXP CD in the other drive?

yes i did try. But it came up with the same result. During the IDE Scan it lists my optical drive but when i go boot it gives me that same message, Please put proper boot device into your selected boot drive.

What did you mean by that? I just connected one to boot anyways. Like currently the only optical is my cd drive. And the xp is good because i tested it out on my other computer and it booted. So what is the problem? The computer is reconizing my device, i selected this device to boot from in the bios, then whats wrong?

Try a different optical drive.

Replace the IDE cable.

Is it a 40 wire or 80 wire cable?

If 40 wire you use the master/slave jumper settings on the drives.

If 80 wire you use the CS (cable select) jumper setting on the drives.

You can get IDE cables from your local computer shop or places like CompUSA or Radio Shack.

40 wire IDE cables usually have connectors that are all the same color. And the surface texture is ribbed (the 40 wires).

80 wire IDE cables usually have 3 different colors for the connectors. And the surface texture is very fine.
