Do you play any computer games?

well if he plays games or not, he can get the 6800GS, which is only about 200 bucks or under, and should perform good.

1 GB of RAM should be good enough

ASUS makes really good motherboards. If not ASUS, ABIT is another good one.

with under 1000 bucks, dont need SLI, so you should get a good PSU at least 450 watts. Antec, enermax, thermaltake, X-clio are the best PSU's.

if AMD, go ahead and get the 3500+. If Intel, get the 3.2 Ghz intel, should work.

Cases are a matter of personal preference. Find a good one, perferably without a PSU, to save a few bucks. Front audio ports and usb are good to have.

hope that helps a little

So you will need a decent gaming video card then.

A video card with a S-Video port. An ATi All-In-Wonder video card might be of use to you if you do a lot of video work.

I believe it's possible.

The biggest hard drive you can fit into your budget. Minimum I would use is a 200GB hard drive for video storage.

Just go with the on-board ethernet/LAN that almost every motherboard comes with nowadays.

No. The new gigabit ethernet you might have heard about does nothing to improve internet speed since the internet isn't anywhere near those speeds. Gigabit ethernet is for networks, not the internet. I think the older 10/100 LAN speeds are still faster than the internet.

There are a few HD tuners available out there.

Right, high speed connections range from like 1 mbit/s, and some areas might have 8 mb/s...even if you had a 10 mbit network, you still wouldn't be bottlenecking it. And if you've got a 100 mbit network, the internet would be no where near maxing out the network.

If you live in the US, Newegg.com is the best place around.
