Problem on my friends A64 BUILD--installing windows on SATA HDD?

hey guys, long time no see. its muskie88, had the name changed. ive been working on some other stuff lately, not much time for the mech.

anyways my friend got his parts for XMAS for a new A64 build...we ran into a couple problems when he tried to install the CPU without opening the ZIF socket (luckily, no bent pins!!) he got a little antsy and couldnt wait for me to come over to start workin.

anyway, we got it to post and all. everything looks real good cept the HDD situation. he got a maxtor sATA something like 120 gigs, whatever, and it recognizes it, but windows says no HDDS are found and wont install to it. his other hdd is a ATA hes had for a while, that unfortunately already has XP on it, so when we plug that in it gets all confused and tries to boot to that.

were trying to install XP Media center here for him, but we WANT IT ON THE sATA. I dont know much about sATA, hence the reason why im failing at installing to it. Ive heard of having to install drivers for it before, what do i have to do?

thanks

Need to get the SATA drivers off the mother board CD and load it onto a floppy. I think when XP starts to install, there is an option to install mass storage devices. Then load the driver from the floppy.

You will have to get the sata drivers either from the Motherboards install disc & copy them to a floppy or from the mobo mfg website. Then when Windows starts the install, hit F6 and let the installer get to the point where it asks for the sata drivers at which time insert the floppy and Windoews will find the sata drive so you can complete thhe install.

What motherboard is being used? I've heard there are some problems getting SATA hard drives recognized by certain ASUS motherboards.
