Urgent, Need Boot problem fixed
I built this new computer and when i turn it on, it boots into bios. It does not boot directly into windows but instead goes into this black screen taht shows the system info and says fress f1 to continue(boot into windows) or Delete (enter bios setup). So i have to press f1 each time i start the computer to make it boot into windows. Does anybody know how to make the machine boot directly into windows withought having to manually press f1

How about giving us the complete spec's for this system and the operating system in use.
Did the hard drive already have the OS installed on it or did you just do the installation? Cricket

I'm assuming that you have taken the OS disk out...
So this thing has never run properly? |

Does it still do that if you run the system at stock speeds?
Did your computer always do this? Cricket

Yeah, i dont think it has anything to do with the overclocking because at stock speeds it did the same thing. Do you know if its something that i can fix through Startup and recovery in the control panel. Can you tell me what your startup and recovery is set at. Go to Control panel-system-advanced-startup and recovery. im wondering if i can fix it here

Be a little more patient, C-G-E. This isn't a chat room. Ya gotta give folks an opportunity to see your thread and respond. This being a holiday weekend, many folks are busy or away.
That doesn't sound like the bios screen if you press F1 to boot. Sounds like something is not set properly or you have a hardware problem that is being detected at startup. You are then given the option of going to the bios and fixing the problem or pressing F1 to boot up. My suggestion, remove the OC and return it to stock settings. Then follow Hal's guide to troubleshooting a new system in the BYOPC area. Work with only the core components. If the problem persists, either the memory, vid card, psu, bios settings or mobo is causing the problem. If the problem goes away when using only the core components, then reconnect your additional hard ware one piece at a time and see if one of them is the cause. |

YEah its not the bios screen its a black screen that shows the system info. ANd pressing f1 boots it into windows perfectly. I cant see any reason why it doesnt just automatically boot to windows. I have returned the settings to normal and have tried booting it without all the unnecessary items and nothing changed it. So im wondering if it has to do with windows. Is it possible that it wasnt installed correctly, or that it isnt first in the boot order

Did you install Windows while the computer was overclocked or while it was at stock speeds?

I work on Dell PC's and i have often found that when the press F1 message comes up its because the BIOS settings are not correct. pressing F1 continues to load windows but does not cure the initial problem.

So we have now established that there is indeed a problem. Now i was wondering if anybody knows how to fix it. And i installed windows using the stock bios settings. I only ocd the proc after windows was installed. So if the bios settings aren't correct, than what is the correct bios settings.

Have to tried it at stock speeds? If so does it still prompt you to press F1?

Sorry, must have missed that in your post. Try setting the bios to setup defaults , see if that works.

My friend has this exact same problem, he has to press F1 every time he boots. However his computer is not new, its filled with crap and despretly needs a re-format.
That doesnt help you solve the problem but at least your not alone

Just make sure the computer is not plugged into the wall.
Refer to your manual, there should be a jumper that you can change to clear the CMOS more quickly.
