How is this for a budget build?
I may be building a budget computer for a family friend. He wants to upgrade this old machine and I pretty much talked him out getting a cheap Dell, the budget is around $400, he does not need a monitor, keyboard or mouse. This is what I came up with, does it all look compatible? Right now he is using an old Compaq with a 433 P2 and 128 MB of ram, it also runs XP (barely), he only uses the computer for internet and work, which involves mainly MS office apps and he also wants to be able to burn DVD's. This does not have to be a high performance machine, he just wants something that is usable/stable and I think for $400 its pretty damn good.
Case: Antec with 350 watt PS http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16811129150 Mobo: Intel with built in video/sound and Lan http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813121309 CPU: Intel 2.66 P4 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819116224 RAM: Corsair value select 512 (2 x 256) http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820145477 Hard Drive: Seagate 80GB SATA http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822148040 Optical Drive: Lite-ON 160P6S http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16827106008 BTW a comparable Dell will cost about $450-500 and that is with a Celeron plus who knows what brand hard drive, memory, ect.

I've built a couple of pc's with the ATI chipsets but mine have been with the Sempron in a 754 socket. Can't say much about that chipset with an Intel combo. I use the same case/psu for most of my builds. The psu comes with the 24 pin mobo connector and SATA connectors for the hard drive. Nice easy setup. Overall, looks like a nice system.

Yes the MB is the only thing that I am re-considering, I may go for an Asus instead...Oh and I also forgot the OS.

I would reccommend an Intel chipset motherboard from Intel or ASUS.
