Boot error on new built (shuttle)
Hello all,
Just wanted to ask for advise on recent problem I've experienced with my new build: Shuttle SN25P, CPU: Athlon 3200+, PC3200 RAM, HDD SATA MAXTOR, VGA Sappphire x800GT 256M, Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse. Bought the whole thing two months ago. Three weeks ago, the computer started freezing (while downloading from www, after or during watching movie, while transfering data from/to USB ...). When I was rebooting, the "boot error: insert system disk" message came up. After a few hours, it was rebooting fine and after a little while, the PC started freezing again and it was impossible to boot properly. I went on Shuttle website and loaded a patch (released 3 days after i did the whole first install). Patch was supposed to correct communication problems between motherboard and USB ports. It worked fine for a while but now the same problem occur again. I am not an expert and I don't know what to do. Should I bring the HDD back to the shop (or buy a new one considering they'll return it to vendor and would take a while ...). What additional tests can I perform? I can go into the BIOS. The temperature is fine. Nothing is missing. |

Hi rom
from what you describe i would suspect the hard drive, but seeing as you've only had the system for two months then i would contact the vendor for advice and possible repalcement of parts. Doug |

You should be able to go to Maxtor's site and download their diagnostic utilities to test the HDD.

Maxtor & Powermax
Guys, thank you for your reply, unfortunately, I do not have my computer with me. I will try the "Powermax" option and go back to Maxxtor directly if the tool happens to diagnose a problem.
