CPU fan failure!
On my Son's new comp (I built for him) I am receiving an 'CPU fan failure' at start up. however it seems to be running fine, it's been running for about 35 hours now and the Fan temp is at 40C and the fan speed is at 2600rpm (isnt that kinda slow?) And the case temp is 32C.
As suggested by 'Panama Red' I looked in the bios for a way to correct or switch off the warning, but did'nt find anything except dissabling the F1 option and continuing start up after the error posts and the 3 beeps. I left the side panel off to see the CPU fan and it spins at start up ok specs: Asus P4S800D-X 3.0E P4 FSB 800 1G 2700 DDR 400watt PowerMax ATX PSU 80G WD ide HDD

Does the CPU heatsink fan have a 3 pin or 4 pin power connector? Try looking through the motherboard manual to see if there is a jumper on the motherboard that needs to be set for the type of heatsink fan power connection you have.

That means nothing really, it just means that because your computer was turned off it had cooled down a lot, so when you boot up the fan recognizes the cool temperatures of the CPU and doesn't spin very fast. In BIOS you selected a minimum speed at which the fan would be at and a notice "CPU fan Failure" would appear.... so because it is cool in the case your fan runs slower than the minimum (defualt is kinda high) and you get the message. You can enter BIOS and lower the settings... I think it is under hardware monitor.
Or - Turn off cool and quiet settings so the fan spins full speed all the time - it is a little noisier but keeps it cool and you shouldn't get the warning.

You're right, I lowered the settings in the mobo utilities console and 'no more warning'! thanks for the tip.
