CRASH Damn Blue Screens are back.

Well, I built my pc. I use to get blue screens alot, but when I exchanged the video card and got a huge cpu fan, it stopped. But, I recently installed Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and now the game will sometimes exit on its own, and/or I'll get blue screens again. And now I'm getting blue screens without being in the game. The screens just say if this is the first time, restart. If not, check drivers and yadda yadda. And I did all that. What the heck can be wrong?

It sounds like the card is on it's way out.
Impose on a friend and try the card in his/her machine.
If the trouble continues rma the card and ATI will replace it.

I got the one year warranty from comp usa. If I return the card there, shouldn't I be able to get a replacement?

Also, I got a PCI exhaust fan at the same time I installed the Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. Do you think that could have disturbed my air flow and cuased my Video Card to get over heated?

Nah, wouldn't the slot fan pull the heat away from the video card and blow it out the back? I don't think it had anything to do with your problem.

Unlikely.
Also heat stressed video cards produce very noticeable artifacting, they don't just blue screen or dump you at your desktop.
Your best way to find out if it's the card is try it on another machine.

Well, just asking, if it isn't the Video Card, what other possibilities could it be?

Have you tested your RAM yet?

Have you run diagnostics on your hard drive yet?

Put Memtest86+ on a bootable floppy to test the RAM.

Download the hard drive diagnostics from the manufacture's website.

Lightbulb

When you get a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death), write down the codes in the message. They should look something like: 0x000800088A Then you should be able to search the Microsoft knowledge database for some help. I used to get BSOD's regularly about a year ago and tracked it down to my cable modem not working correctly via USB so I swapped it to ethernet and never had the problem again. Good luck!

Okay, I searched the numbers, and here is what came up. ANd btw, I don't even have 2000, I have XP. This thing doesn't seem to fit my case.

Oh uh, 253 errors definitely isn't good. I'd start the RMA process on that RAM (if a warranty is still applicable).

EDIT: If this is the rig in your sig, I think you better buy some proper RAM for the system, some DDR400, that DDR266 is not quite up to par.

Bad news, its ebay Crap. So, guess, I'll have to cut my losses, never buy from Memory Pro again, and go with Kingston or Corsair.

Ah well...like I said, maybe it's for the better, you really should have some DDR400 RAM to get full potential out of that CPU.

EDIT: You should try one stick at time and see if they are all faulty, maybe you can salvage a couple of the sticks.

actually, i just got two new sticks. those must be the fault ones. the blue screens happened after i installed them. i can't believe i forgot. but, i'd be better off just getting 2 512 mb 400(3200) sticks.

Nvm on that, I just did a test on my original two sticks. I have 10 errors so far. ugh. evil memory pro.

I went to compusa and bought some Pc Ready brand 2 x 512 400(3200). I'm running the memory test on it, so we'll see what happens.
