Another Sata thread

I know this is a heavily covered issue, but I have gone over the previous threads and followed the advice and I still am coming up with problems with my sata drive.

I am new to building PCs, I have a Abit AX-8 motherboard with a AMD 3500+ processor. I am trying to install windows on a WD 120gb Sata drive. I have downloaded the drivers for Via Sata from the Abit website but I have tried installing a couple of different files from the downloads via pressing F6, but most of them say that they are corrupt or others install Raid drivers and then the drive does not get recognised when trying to install windows.

Could some one advise m why I am experiencing this problem or which are the correct files to use.

Also there are no onchip settings for sata in bios, so Im not sure if that needs to be configured. And sometimes a message saying CPU is unworkable or has been changed appears. I have checked the CPU and it should be fine, Is this a big problem?

I would be gratefull for any help. Thanks

Have you checked all the accessories that came with your motherboard? There may already be a SATA driver disk that came with it. If the mobo manufacturer's dont use native SATA drivers, they usually supply a disk to do it.

Just reviewed your manual. Have you checked in the bios to see if your SATA hdd is recognized wiithout installing any drivers? Look under the Advanced BIOS Features>Hard disk boot priority. If it's listed there, the SATA is native to the chipset and no additional drivers are needed.
