smokin A-power micro atx power supplies

I've got a new mother board/cpu bundle. My manual states that I need at least a 300w power supply. Anybody familiar A-power power supplies?

I only see them available at a couple of etailers. Computer Geeks.com has a 480watt gamers unit for $11.50!! A power supply for that cheap scares me. Plus this statement is found at the bottom of the ad: "There are no regulatory approvals on this power supply." That means it has not been approved or not been tested to comply with UL or CSA regulations. Bottom line - I wouldn't put one in my computer nor one of my customers.

Thanks you, Panama Red. Can you recommend a site where I might find a reliable power supply? I'm upgrading my 7 year Gateway computer from a P2 to P4. I'm doing it on the cheap but I'm well aware of how important a stable power supply is to computer peformance.

Reusing the Gateway case to save a few bucks is more trouble than it's worth. I've done one and it's a lot of cutting/grinding and fabrication to make the mobo and psu fit properly. You'd be better off buying an Antec or Enlight case with a 300 - 350 watt psu. The Antec units carry a 3 year warranty too. Here's a couple of beige ones. If you want black, just browse the site.

About twelve months ago, because of supply problems in Puerto Rico, I was only able to get my hands on A-Power PSU's, out of about 30 or 40 of these PSU's supplied and fitted by me I only had one back faulty, not a bad record, BUT, out of choice and availability I would not recommend fitting one of these PSU's.
Install it in your machine to get it running by all means but please consider changing it as soon as you can and just keep it for a back up.
