reuse PC question

Hello:

I have a SR1230NX Compaq presario. I would like to change only the motherboard/CPU/RAM and keep everything else as is.

How do I find out what is a compatible board for this case/HDD/ports etc?

Thank you

The hard drive and optical drives should be alright (unless that's a 5400rpm hard drive), and your case will most likely have to go, and the same goes for the power supply. You'll also need a new OS.

Compaqs are hard to upgrade because of all the proprietary parts they use. You might want to consider just building a whole new system and using the old one as a backup or selling it.
