Card Reader into New Build.

I have a card reader that I want to scavenge from an old HP case. The card reader has a USB cable on it. On the female plug that would plug into a motherboard USB header: pin/hole 1 is red, 2 is orange, 3 is white, 4 is yellow, 5 is green, 6 is blue, 7 and 8 are both black, 9 there is no hole (Key) and 10 is empty. Is this the conventional Intel standard?

From they Antec Sonata II manual it shows the motherboard header standard as: pin 1 USB power 1, 2 as USB power 2, 3 as Negative signal 1, 4 as negative signal 2, 5 as positive signal 1, 6 as positive signal 2, 7 as ground 1, 8 as ground 2, 9 is Key (no pin), 10 is an empty pin.

I'm just trying to assure that the HP reader is wired conventionally.

The wire colors aren't really helpful, but USB header connectors are generally standard.

Ok, so how will I know if it, the card reader is wired correctly? I know the mobo is wired conventionally.

Is the card reader an HP brand? Do you have a model number or anything else you could identify it with? Without documentation, there is no way to be sure.

HP/Compaq usb headers don't conform to industry standards. I know first hand that their front panel usb connectors will not work with standard mobo usb headers.
