Problem booting up(no monitor signal)
I built a new computer yesterday and ive been having the problem where the monitor wont recognize the signal. I read some stuff here and tried putting the motherboard together out side the case, but that didnt work, however im using the power supply from the case, so the MB is still pretty close to the case, could that cause problems?
A friend said if your not careful with grounding, which i really wasnt, you could completely short out the motherboard, is this possible and if so, probable? I checked all the connections and im pretty sure theyre in there good, i originally didnt see the 4-pin PSU connector for the MB, but thats in now also, ive tried two monitors, so that not the problem, and my card is dual DVI, and came with two converters that arent working, so i dont think thats the problem either quick specs MB: Gigabyte 915PL with Intel 775 socket Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz Vid card: GeForce 6600GT Memory: 2GB, 1GB DIMM sticks, i read that too much memory can be a problem so I took out one stick, should i maybe take out both? I can swap in a 256 stick PSU: 450W, came with case any help would be appreciate, thanks in advance |

Having problems with a new build? Try this.
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=12753 make sure the memory is DDR ram and try swaping the sticks

I have already tried this and it has not worked. I fear that I may have shorted out the motherboard. If this is the case, could I have damaged anything else on the motherboard(CPU, graphics card, memory)? Is getting a new MB pretty much the only solution?

no you have many options, try bregging it to a pc shop to exchange the video card to see if thats the problem. also if you shorted out the mobo, yes its possible tht the cpu has gone with it

It could be a number of things.
If you post all the components, it will be easier to figure out the problem. Power Supply is a likely suspect if it came with the case.
