Friends build please help

Ok a friend of mine wants help on building a new computer for him to play all the latest games on high or really good settings. Also he wants it to be ungradable for the future and ready for the future. His budget is 1500$ canadian without tax. He wants AMD all the way. He wants to go with sli and dual video card. The video card doesn't have to be top of the line (for now..)
The 1500$ will be part of the two middle line video cards. When he get the money he will sell the two video cards and get himself better ones.

Also for the motherboard we were looking at the ASUS a8n32 sli deluxe.Should he go with that or is there a better one.

Any suggestions?

My friend will thank you (He doesn't got a comp.. yet)

Rather than buy two average video cards I would opt for a good card now and add another as the price on them comes down. Eventually he could then sell both and buy one of the then hot video cards.

I would suggest an Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply.
A case without a power supply
1 or more SATA 16mb cache hard drives
A Liteon CD/DVD burner
Windows XP OEM
Floppy Drive
A better video card rather than 2 lesser ones for the reasons above
The fastest CPU that the budget allows
No sound card for now. Onboard 8 channel is pretty good.
Monitor: what the budget allows RAM: 1 Gb to start (2 X 512)
Look around at newegg or whatever the canadian equivalent is and put together a parts list, then post it back here and someone will help you fine tune it

Ok im with him right now and he has just increased his price to 2000$ CAD. He'll probably have an easier time choosing things.

We will take that power supply it looks good.
For the case its up to him.
1 hard drive at least 160 gig 16 mb. Doesn't want it to be loud.
For dvd burner and floppy drive i'll give him the ones in my older comp since i dont use it anymore at all.
for video card we were looking at the 6800 gs or gt and 7800 gt. Not sure wich one to go with..
For mobo and cpu he wants the a8n32 sli deluxe and a cpu that he can upgrade later on.
I got plenty of monitors.
And instead of 1 gb of ram is it possible to get 2?

We will start making a list right now with the price and post it back asap.

i think the 3700+ is the best bang for the buck right now processor-wise.

you can get 2 GB of RAM. dont know how much of a difference you would notice over 1 GB, but if he plays resource hogging games such as battlefield 2, or does heavy multimedia tasks, he could benefit with the extra GB.

the western digital 320 GB HD with 16 MB Cache and SATA II interface is very good right now. either that or the Maxtor version will work just fine.

For the hard drive is it true that the bigger the space the longer it will take to defrag your computer. And also i heard that the more space u have the more the hard drive has a changce of crashing. Are these things really true?

Power supply: antec true power 2 550 watts 24 pin /120.16 $

Video card:BFG 7800 gt OC 256mb / 464.43 Any better one for the money. Like i said he'll get the other one later.

Sry my faulth pressed enter by mistake and it posted.

Hard drive: western digital se16 250 gb sata 2 / 153.67$

Cpu: AMD athlon 64 3700+ 1mb / 253.99$

As for the case does anyone know a case that the a8n32 sli mobo will fit. Its kind of bigger than a lot of them. He wants a cool and colorful case that really stands out with side window. We were looking at the new aspire discovery case (in green). He really likes it! Will it fit in there? Im not to sure.

No. The time it takes to defrag will depend on how much data is on the drive and how badly it is fragmented
.

The chance of crashing is more a matter of the quality of the drive than the size.
That motherboard should fit in that case with no problems related to size. Check the manual at aspire to be sure you won't have any issues with the front panel wiring.

Hey, I live in Canada and just recently purchased new parts for my own build and have shopoped around and found that www.pccanada.com is one of the best spots to buy parts. They don't have the biggest selection in the world but they are extremely cheap. They have pretty cheap shipping prices (came to $20.00 for my whole build excluding monitor). And the parts usually come within one week. I live near London, Ontario which may be why the parts come so fast.

Ok thanks for the online store kodmaster i'll check for parts there.

As for the motherboard i got some questions. Between the two mother boards wich one is the best. I know that one is for amd and one is for intel but wich one is best by looking at the specs. Like is ddr2 better than ddr and the intel can support 16 gb of ram!!!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131564

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131568

Also the motherboard dimensions are 12.0 x 9.6 . Will it fit in any ATX gaming case?

well my opinion is that the motherboard he choosed is pretty good and for it i will recomend u a good amd proc to go with it i think the 3700+ or the 4000+ will do the job and remember to get 2gb of XMS Corsair RAM and the most important part of this rig is the video card in my opinion he is paying a lot of money for that rig so he deserves a good video card i think he needs to go with the 6800gt from EVGA or the better one the 7600gtx from BFG u got up there a good hd the WD se16 250gb also the guys recomended u a good PSU so i guess thats it.

A quality cooler with a 120mm fan is probably the ideal configuration, and that thermaltake is one. Just keep in mind that it's a very large cooler compared to the standard ones, so make sure there's plenty of room in all directions around the processor.
