recommended mobo?

Hey guys, my brother wants me to put together a computer for him as cheap as possible but good enough to play some games (call of duty 2 and battlefield2 )

I was wondering if someone could recommend the best & cheapest intel mobo that I could start off with?

Hes looking to spend no more than $500 but cheaper if possible. So far I have the following parts covered from my old computer:
Monitor
CDRom
Graphics Card
Soundcard

thanks

I guess it would depend on what type of graphics card u have already pci pci-e agp??? then that would determin what motherboard you should get. if it's pci-e here is a good one: Asus P5ND2-SLI Deluxe NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard and an Intel Pentium 4 519 3.06GHz Processor 289.00$ on sale http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=1650365

then for memory u could get this : Corsair Value Select Dual Channel 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 Memory (2 x 512MB) 75$http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=1168922

Now a hd: Maxtor / 80GB / 7200 / 8MB / ATA-133 / EIDE / OEM / Hard Drive 60$ http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...p?EdpNo=121092

And then you would need a case. 50-60$/w ps make sure it has atleast a 400watt ps

Your graphics card will make a big difference on those games. Which model is it? For good value, if you aren't heading toward a high-end SLI board, take a look at ASUS boards at www.newegg.com .

Yeah what graphics card is it. If its an older computer, I seriously doubt the old card has the power to play COD2 and BF2. How much would you like to play? Everything turned to maximum. For that you're looking at 400-700$ just for the graphics card(s). If you can live with like 1024x768 everything turned low then you can get cheaper stuff. Any way the graphics card is going to be like 150$ at least out of your budget for one that can handle that kind of grunt work.

Unless he is rich the 400-700$ g-card is out of the question. Mine coast me less the 100 and i can play all the new games.

And I also know wolf414 at less than 100$, there is no way you can play those games at 1600x1200 with everything turned high with 8AA and 8AS. Thats why I asked how high of a quality he wants to play.

Hold it folks, that card is AGP, so if you want to re-use that card, new recommendations are in store.

I'm thinking Socket 478 and AGP of course. An ASUS P4P800 would be good to start with.

That's a very solid motherboard, and you can put a 3GHz chip into it. With that gpu, I'd say you'd have a decent machine for a fairly low price. As mentioned above, however, those games won't be fully appreciated at that level.

I agree. That is a very good board to start looking at. I love almost everything Asus has put out.
