splat Incompatible, that's what you are...

(Gold stars for everyone who recognizes the original song) I got a a new build, delivered at 8:30 am, on my doorstep along with it's crazed owner.
The problem?
A Maxtor DiamondMax 11 hooked up to an NForce4 motherboard.
Some fast research showed that it was the same problem they'd had with the DiamondMax 10. You can read but you can't write with this set-up.
Until the company, now Seagate, publishes other info don't use those drives on NForce4 motherboards.
Wait out the "there'll be a bios update" spin as well.

As far as I can tell the problem is Maxtor's and it's only with the NForce4 boards ( that's the info just now ).

Could that have been the problem with my hard drive? I was using my maxtor Diamondmax 10 on an Asus A8N-sli.

Well I would install the OS, and then if I restarted it cmos would come up saying that "(insert file name here) was missing and/or corrupt. Please re-insert windows CD and repair this install"

I also could not install Halo or Rise of Nations, but I was able to install the Call of Duty 2 demo.

Those problems could be RAM related.

Yeah it could have been ram, as Cricket said, but with this history it's time to get a nice Western Digital.

Hmmm....Is there any way to cancel an RMA? Or switch it around so that I can get a refund and buy a different hard drive?

EDIT

Steve tell us what you've done and with who.
Since these things have dates we'll need to know them as well.

RMA'd my Maxtor hard drive with Newegg(the place I bought it). I got a confirmation e-mail from them yesterday saying that they have recieved it and it will take them a couple of days to process it.

I've been searching and it turns out MaximunPC also ran into the same problem ( their January 2006 issue ) when they were testing hard drives and they just dropped Maxtor entirely.
I don't know what Maxtor may or may not have been doing since then ( the test would have been at least 2 month earlier) but the fault is theirs.
So if the new drive is a dud (gives you the same grief) go for Western Digital.
