Apple I mac G5 VS the Monarch PC Deluxe - please help?!?!
I want to use this pc for mainly entertainment purposes. For instance burning movies, cds. Editing photos, listining to music and watching movies.
I was leaning towards the IMAC but would like too your opinions for either and why. http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...uct_Code=90375 Thanks |

The AMD will be faster, thats just a fact. But it'll also end up costing you more, money and time. You need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers etc, software for your intended purposes not to mention software for your "unintended" purposes, ie, security. The imac has a monitor/KB/Mouse/speakers and all of the software you need is pre-installed for free. Imovie (movie making), DVD Player (self explanitory), iphoto (editing and organization), itunes, idvd (dvd authoring and burning), garageband (composing music), it also has front row which is like media center although not as extensive, in addition to many other programs. You'll save time and money by not having to bother with antivirus and antispyware and for the most part it'll just work. You'll also get a warranty and support that doesn't appear to come with the AMD box (just looked again, it does come with 6 months).
On the other hand, if you like windows and have a significant software investment you'll be better of sticking with the PC. The PC will also be easier to upgrade in the future. Either way i'd wait until after macworld this month (Jan 10th keynote) to see if intel mac's are relesed. They should be faster and cheaper.

There aren't any virus or spyware for OS X. Haven't been in 5 years. So yeah, it's about 70,000 times more prone. Unless of course you run as a user in windows and not an admin, disable scripting etc... then windows is a bit safer.
