New Build Parts
Hey, haven't posted for a while. I've been away from the whole computer building thing for a while so I'm not really up to date on the latest stuff. My brother wants a new computer so I did some research and picked out parts for him. Everything has changed since I did this last so I'm not 100% sure, so I'll run the list by here so you guys can check the parts, let me know if anything isn't compatible or if I'm missing anything. We are hoping to get this bought today (all from Newegg). Thanks a lot
![]() PS. he wants to keep using a 160 gb PATA drive that he already has (in addition to the new 40 gb sata drive), so that's why I got the PATA to SATA converter, which I think I will use on the DVD burner, and put the 160gb on the native IDE. Unless there isn't a problem with putting both the burner and 160gb on the same channel? There is only one IDE channel on this motherboard. Here's the list: -GWC AD3300 Serial ATA to IDE Converter - Retail -Sky Hawk/Eagle Tech Matrix PSR5601W-BK-DR Silver/Black 1.0 mm anodized Aluminum Alloy ATX Mid Tower Case With side window - Retail -GENERIC 80MM FAN FILTER No screws - OEM -LG Black E-IDE / ATAPI DVD Burner 5X DVD-RAM Write Model GSA-4167B BK - OEM -MITSUMI Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive - OEM -ABIT AL8 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail -SAMSUNG SpinPoint P80SD HD040GJ 40GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM -CORSAIR VALUE SELECT 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Unbuffered System Memory Model VS1GBKIT667D2 - Retail -ENERMAX EG425P-VE SFMA 2.0 ATX12V 420W Power Supply - Retail -Intel Pentium D 820 Smithfield 800MHz FSB LGA 775 Dual Core, EM64T Processor Model BX80551PG2800FN - Retail -ASUS EN6600GT/TD/128 Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail -Leadtek TV2000XP/EXPERT PCI Interface TV/FM Tuner Card, REMOTE - Retail Total price: $1007 including shipping Thanks, RenegadeKing

Hmm, just checked that converting thing, never heard of such a thing, but if it works, well that'd be good. If not you can get a $20 IDE controller card to run the hard drive on.

That's actually a really good idea, I didn't even think of that. And I would trust it a lot more than some weird thing in a cardboard backed plastic box with engrish all over it
