Help on installing xp home

For my new computer I am trying to install a oem version of xp home. I have a dvd rom and set it to 1st boot, put in disk and reboot. Each time it doesnt read it and say disk boot disk error. I have also tried to switch between 1st and 2nd priority ide slots. Any clue on what im doing wrong?

Do you have the jumpers set right on your drives? Do you have a floppy? If you do try downloading a windows XP boot disk for your floppy drive and set that as first boot and you might be able to get it to work through there.

How many opticals do you have? Like do you have 2 ide slots or just one? Because i had a similiar problem, and i old had one 1 ide slot. So i had to connect my Dvd and my hardrive together in one slot. Hard drive on master, and dvd on slave. Then once i booted windows i put my hard drive into the Raid slot. It wouldnt reconize it at raid during installation.

Have the DVD drive plugged into the end of the cable, and make sure the jumper is on Master. Don't use the same IDE cable as you're using for your hard drive.

I have 1 optical and my hard drive is sata. So the jumper is set to master and the ide cable is plugged into the primary ide slot. Anything else that could be going wrong, im desperate.

This might sound silly but you don't have the Raid Driver floppy in the floppy drive during start up, do you? That might give you a boot disc error.
