First time build, Odd problem.
Hello all, This is my first self made pc, when first built it worked fine for the first few weeks but then all of a sudden, I seem to be having an odd problem which I cannot figure out the source of. My problem is ONLY noticable in online video games, world of warcraft,warcraft3,quake4 multiplayer, basicaly when in a multiplayer game every once in a while I will start to get the most peculiar lag, not fps lag but something to due with my connection, in warcraft 3 i usually disconnect because of it, in WoW i usually disconnect, and for quake4 i usually just warp around for a few seconds.
i first thought the problem was spyware/virus's after using scanners including microsofts own spyware scanner i removed a ton of the little pests and noticed a good improvement in my online games, however the main problem is still there just without the guaranteed disconnect instead the random intervals of lag still keep coming. as of right now i know my comp is free of virus/spyware as im using multiple scanners all the time to check, I also know it is not my cable isp because i hooked up my brothers dsl line to my comp and still have the same problem, my comp is fully updated with sp2 and all the fixes. My hardware is; amd 3200+ 64bit, radeon x800 vid card, 1gig of ram,and an nvidia motherboard. any help will be appreciated. I should also add that this problem does not effect my downloads and i usually do large downloads overnight. Other then the mentioned problems this computer works absolutely fine, If anyone could help me that would be great. |

I would disable most of those multiple scanners while playing those games - but I assume you're already thought of that. I would try to rule out the actual connection by reseting you modem and/or router before playing, it might be an external problem with the connection?
I would also check to see if you have the latest video driveres installed on your computer, plus check to see if your hard drive needs defraging for that will slow a system down. Also check to see how good of connection you have.

I know its not my connection cuz i get the same problem with both my own adelphia cable and my brothers verizon dsl, I doubt its due to a fragmented harddrive since ive reformatted numerous times to try to fix it.
