Boom Truly Baffling -- Please Help!!!!

I' m attempting a build with a Chaintech Summit SK8T800 and an Athlon 64 3700+ with a 500W V Series Ultra PSU (I only mention these components because I've basically stripped the test build down to these).

First build, I put it all together hit the PWR switch, get a few spins from the fans and then nothing. Check all the connections, try again => same thing.

Then, I remove the MB, CPU, etc. and reassemble the whole thing. I write for advice on a couple of forums (fora!?), move the DDR stick, check the PSU voltage (115 = OK), the 12V connector (in) and the heatsink/fan install.

Same thing => a few fan spins then nothing. I then buy another PSU, start from scratch again and get the same few fans spins.

I use a multimeter to check the case switch => OK

Having determined its either the CPU or the MB, I do a RMA with tigerdirect.

I get a new MB and CPU today. Rebuild and get the same result.

I then do a "HAL9000" build in the MB box, use an insulated tool to touch the PWR SW terminals and get the same few fan spins. Never any POST beeps or anything, just about 2-3 sec of fan spin.

I'm absolutely baffled by this...I swear, although I'm not vastly experienced, I am technically competent and I can't figure this out!

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

How old is your PSU unit, and has it been scrapped from another computer, because i encountered a similiar problem after my psu shorted out, it would run for a good 2-3 seconds show signs of starting up then completely die out, i eventually bought another power supply running me about $80 and i have not had that problem since. Try and test out your psu first when you have any type of power problem, because generally its going to relate around that component of the computer. Good Luck .

Not only is this PSU brand new...I actually bought an additional brand new PSU (different model) and had the same problem. Thanks for your help.

Are you sure that the heatsink is properly mounted?

Would you be kind enough to list all the parts and they model numbers?
