1rst build can someone review?

Hello, this is my first build and so I'm looking for someone smarter than me to review my parts list. My goal is to build and XP system that I will later upgrade to a WMC pc. I already have the XP pro OS, and plan on later adding a TV output graphics card and TV tuner card for WMC. I'm trying to build a realiable system on a $500 budget. Here is my current bill of materials. If someone could look at it and make sure I'm not an idiot I would appreciate it. Thanks,

You are going to want DDR400 memory, not DDR333.

DDR400 means PC3200; the terms are equivalent.

I wouldn't use an Aspire power supply.

If your budget is tight, consider an Antec case that has one of their quality power supplies installed.

socket 754 DEad and IDE soon to be! socket 754 will not be upgradable go with a 939. YOu can find a cheap one that will last longer. If your not sure which parts are compatible how will you even know how to build it. Do more research and read read read! If you just jump into buying parts your gonna regret it later.

Looks like a good build to me (other than the DDR400 thing).

Ok let review the build. First thing...change the power supply. Try going with antec they got really good stable power supplys for a cheap price compared with other companys. Instead of socket 754 go with 939. More upgradable with in the future if ever. The dvd burner looks fine. I got the same one. Pretty quiet and reliable. As for the memory go with pc 3200 or drr400.

Everything else looks good.

note, if you want to go 939 pin, then the processor price will go up by about $70+. And you will have to change your mobo aswell, but in terms of upgrading, it will be worth it instead of investing in a phasing out socket.

Looks much better to me.

I believe the PSU in the Antec case is actually an ATX2 model, though this is not how it's advertised on Newegg.....which means you're good to go.

Freakitchen

EDIT: Just noticed you're now missing a video card. The new motherboard you've chosen does not come with onboard video

is it just me or is there a video card missing? if you dont have one that you can use at the moment, tell us what this comp is going to be used for so we can help you choose one. im dumb, what does WMC stand for lol.

EDIT: Hey i noticed that first

EDIT: if you dont expect to be doing anything too extreme with your comp, i think this card would do: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121193

The power supply in the Antec case is a good one but it's not powerful enough for a Athlon 64 based system, you'll want something with 400 watts or more.

And which video card are you going to use? The new motherboard you listed doesn't have on-board video.

yea what its this for anyays because if you plan on upgrading you might just want to go ahead and spend some more money depending on what you want to upgrade and all. because your mobo is the most important part in upgrading and yours is ok but upgrading might be hard depending on the used.
especially without onboard video. Even if you get a card with onboard video its gonna suck. So games would be out of the question unless you play free cell!
