Help with my first PC
I'm building my first ever home-built PC and, of course, having a little trouble. I have:
AMD 64 X2 4400+ ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe nVidia Extreme n7800 GTX 184-PIN DIMM 128Mx72 DDR PC3200 (2x1GB) I got the whole thing to power up, to my delight. I am extremely proud of myself for even getting that far . However, I'm not getting any video to my monitor. I made sure the card was in securely and all the connections were good. The fan on the card is running, so its getting some power. I have a 500W power supply. Any suggestions? Thanks

Try this troubleshooter and post the results. You must remove the motherboard from the case when doing this.
What brand is the power supply? Cricket

What specific brand and model is the power supply? Is
the 4 pin auxillary power connector near the CPU plugged in? If the video card has a power connector is it plugged in?

Power supply is CompUSA 500watt ATX. The 4 pin aux power connector is plugged in. The video card has a power connector and it is plugged in.

Oh, and I got a new power supply: 350W SPI dual +12V rails
(duh, the generic one didn't have enough pins. Could I have royally screwed up my MB by using that one?) |

PROGRESS!!!
OK, so I removed the battery, cleared the ram, and got video!!! Then I turned it off, hooked up the CD drive, USB cables, inserted the sound card and connected the COM and firewire ports. Now its not working again. I'm gonna go through the things one by one until I can isolate the problem, but does anyone have an idea off hand? |

Alright, so I found out I had the optical drive set to slave when it was the secondary master. I fixed that, cleared the RAM and booted up. I was able to get to the BIOS. I set the system time and boot order, checked that the proper processor was selected, saved my settings and exited. Then nothing happened. I tried resetting and it went back to having no video. I took out the battery, cleared the RAM again and was able to get back to the BIOS. What am I not doing right?
