Preparing a Crossfire build...
Howdy!
After the help and advice here, I managed to build an SLI-ready PC for my brother (Athlon 3500+, 7800GT, etc). I'm now considering making a Crossfire-ready PC, using the soon to be released X1900XTX. I don't know anything about ATI-compatible mobos, however. In my last build, I used an Asus A8N-SLI. Am I right in thinking that that mobo would allow ONE Ati card, but not two in Crossfire? If so, which mobos would allow two Ati cards (and also a Socket 939 processor)? Cheers =) |

This board is not crossfire ready , it will only run sli cards . You can put an ati card in there , but it will just run as a single card. Asus have the a8r mvp board out which is crossfire ready , but a better bet is to wait until they release the all singing all dancin version, which should be out soon.

ASUS A8R-MVP Socket 939 ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 CrossFire ATX AMD CrossFire Motherboard - Retail - $139 USD Is the motherboard your looking for, it supports CrossFire. Theres also one from DFI, and Abit will be comming out with one shortly.

if i were you, id stick with SLI, reasons: SLI is older, which means that its more evoluated then crossfire

Thanks for the advice guys. What's the difference between the Asus one already out then, and the all-singing, all-dancing one as ya call it
Presumably the Abit and DFI mobos will just be similar specs? What about the Sapphire? Given that the motherboards will all take DDR 400 RAM, presumably have a similar number of PCI slots, etc., are there any reasons to go for certain brands over others...? |

I read somewhere that asus were bringing out a crossfire board that will be at the top end of the market . The a8r is quite cheap for a new crossfire board , and so its aimed at consumers who are looking to upgrade quite cheaply. Its a great board , but ill be waiting for the better version before i upgrade, and as someone has mentioned , crossfire is still quite new , so waiting will give asus time to iron out bugs.
