Right now Crossfire is more effective because ATI has a better graphics card out right now there ATI Radeon x1800 is a very nice card but if your looking for a lower priced card you should go with SLI from nvidia

nVidia the company produces GeForce card models, currently at series 7(example: 7800 or 7600). the 800 and 600 stand for the defierent performance and functionality of the cards(normally higher is better)

ATI produces its Radeon card models, currently at series 11( for short X1)
(example :so you get X1600, X1800)

nVidia's SLI is more of an internal connection between the 2 graphics cards but you must use the SAME cards

ATI's crossfire is an external connection outside the PC andbut allows you to use two cards with different models (you can use an X1800 and an X1600) but the speed will depend on the slower.

At the moment, I'd say SLI is better, just because it's more matured and there's more selection and what not. I think eventually, Crossfire will be a bit better, but it's hard to say until Crossfire is out in full swing.

rave, I've never heard of a 7600. There's only 7800GT and 7800GTX.

For SLI you've got the 6600, 6800, and 7800's.

For Crossfire, you've got all the X series - X800, X850, X1300, X1600, and X1800.
