What should I upgrade?
My friend has the following configuration:
MotherBoard: Asus nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU, Model "A7N8X-E Deluxe" Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ "Barton", 333 FSB, 512K Cache Processor Memory: Corsair Value Select Dual Channel Kit 184 Pin 1G(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 HD: Western Digital 40GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model WD400JB Network Card: On MB Sound Card: On MB Video Card: ATI RADEON 9600XT Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, DVI/TV-Out, 8X AGP OS: Win XP Home He plays an online game (Dark Ages of Camelot) and it has been laggy for him lately even when it hasn't been for other people. Give the configuration listed, what component(s) do you think he would see the most improvement by upgrading, and what would you recommend that he upgrade to? Thanks for any help. |

I think your friend should upgrade his proccesor to a faster one. Or maybe upgrade his CPU and motherboard.

I'd start with upgrading the video card. For probably $150-225, you friend could do a serious upgrade in gaming performance with a better card. The 9600XT is about two generations old.

First of all, is his hard drive nearly full? If it is then that could cause the system to become sluggish.
Does he keep his security software up to date and does he scan for viruses, trojans, spyware and hijackers regularly? Does he defrag regularly? Cricket
