Hey everyone, I am going to put together a computer for a friend. I picked out these parts but wanted to run it by some people to make sure everything fits before we purchase the parts.

I don't think that graphics card is compatible, SLI is PCI-e, Radeon is AGP. That processor isn't compatible either. Socket 478 doesn't fit in Socket T. DVD-RW's are so cheap these days, why not upgrade? Don't forget a box to throw these parts in.

heres what i see. your motherboard is a socket 775 but your processor is socket 478 these are not compatible. the only other thing i would recommed is a PCI- express graphics card because that board does not support AGP. an also i would consider using a Serial ATA Hard drive and upgrade your PSU.

If you are not planning on running two video cards in SLI mode, change the motherboard to an Intel based board from Intel or ASUS.

Harddrive: Western Digital or Seagate SATA 16Mb cache

Sound Card: Try the onboard 8 channel sound first.

Power Supply: Thermaltake isn't the best brand. You will need an ATX 2.0 PSU from a quality maker like Antec or Enermax.

Processor: Change that to one of the LGA 775s

Memory: Be sure you check the motherboard makers website for the RAM QVL (qualified vendor list) or use a configurator to determine the correct part number to order.

Case: don't get some $20 Aspire case. Intel processors have specific case design considerations to prevent overheating. Get a case from the Thermally Advantaged Chassis list on this page.,

Radeon is AGP

Incorrect. there are several PCI-E x 16 Radeons, including a couple of All-In-wonder cards similiar to the one in your list.

Yeah, the Intel 6xx's are cheaper than the Skt 478's. Same generally goes for PCI-E cards.

Don't get an SLI board on this budget. Just get a standard single PCI-E slot board from Intel or ASUS.

As long as its compatible with the motherboard, get some DDR2533 RAM - it's the cheapest (for the most part) around now.

Well...looks compatible, but it's outdated. You don't really want to use outdated technologies. A similar Intel 630, PCI-E, DDR2533 system would probably cost less too.

Also, what will be done with this computer? Gaming?

I think it looks like a pretty good budget build. Purpose of the computer would be very helpful. If it's for someone that does real light gaming and general tasks, then it looks good. But if it's for someone that does a few higher end tasks, I would upgrade some more. And yes, I think you should stick with onboard sound.

Intel or Asus with the intel 915 chipset, and whatever features you want on the board.

the updated list looks ok. like someone else said its pretty outdated. what is the total amount this build will cost you? now i did a little looking around and it seems you could build a much more up to date system for the same price. ALWAYS check www.pricegrabber.com before you buy computer hardware from any other site. chances are most sites you would be checking out for your build will be searched by pricegrabber anyways. btw check out my signature i built this comp a year ago. i bought everything through www.pricegrabber.com and built this hog for $600
by the way good choice of psu. imo antec makes the highest quality psu's available

This is in accordance to the first post:

Intel 630.

That 2.8E won't work with the new board. Nextly, you won't need a SLI board - not on this budget. You'll need a PCI-E video card as well. Also you are going to want a SATA hard drive too. That'll give you some ideas to revise this.

I'd recommend the board that nicolaus corelius suggested, along with DDR2 533 RAM.

You might look at a 6600GT or X700 if you are going to be doing some light (3d) gaming.
