question about installation order

Hi all,

I've been looking around these forums for the past week and have learned a great deal already. I've got all the parts for a new computer that I am going to put together this weekend. After reading a lot of the posts here, I have answered most of the questions that I've had.

However, I am wondering about a few steps. I understand the basic order of operations for the installation of hardware, but not about some of the software. Specifically, do I install the chipset drivers for the motherboard before I attempt to install windows xp? If not, do I install xp first and then the chipset drivers?

thanks,
edietz

You must install Windows XP before anything else. This process involves booting from the Windows CD and partitioning your hard drive accordingly...it's a step by step process that's fully explained.

Only then should you install your chipset drives, followed by your video card drivers.

Cool. Thanks. I figured this was true but I thought it was a good idea to ask.
