Front USB
I just built my first PC and except for the BIOS problem
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=149439 there is just one more thing, the front USB. Im 100% sure its hooked up right however it cant recongnize any USB devices. I tried plugging my flash drive and IPod into it and both devices light up and XP says new devices found, however after a few seconds it says unable to recognize device. But, when I plug them into the back its able to recognize them. Any thoughts? What is the USB device that you are trying to plug in? Some front USB ports cannot support USB 2.0, and others are just some extension from the motherboard

An Ipod, which I know is 2.0 and backward compatible with 1.1.
Also, a thumb drive. So maybe the case usb ports can't usb 2.0? Is there a way to downgrade the mobo front usb connectors to simulate 1.1 to get the front ones to work? |

They'r ebackwards compatible. Have you loaded all the drivers for your motherboard yet? If not the usb ports will not be recoginzed. Check in device manager for yellow flagged items in the list.

If the front usb's aren't working, you have something connected wrong. Is the connector that attaches to the mobo a single connector with all wires held together or do you have to insert each wire separately?

I have to insert each wire seperatly,
I think the USB port is connected correctly b/c when I plu something in it knows something is there and tries to install the new divice but, it just cant recognize what it is. Also, there's no yellow marks in the divice manager |

No yellow marks would mean that the usb devices are working properly. That would mean the headers on the mobo should be working, the drivers are part of XP. I would bet you have a couple of wires backwards. How are the wires marked? Asus headers are typically arranged with the ground wire (black) oriented toward the end of the header that has one pin missing. The power connectors (red) are at the other end of the header and the data lines (+ and -) are in between. I have seen some usb devices that have two black wires and need to have them switched to work right. But if your wiring is individual, you just need to make sure they are on the right pins.
