Are Notebooks Worth Building ?

My sister would like to get a new notebook like mine. I purchased an Acer Aspire 3000 from newegg for around 600 bucks. She will probably burn CD's, play on the internet, do some business work with excel; so she doesn’t need a power machine. We have an old IBM Power book, should we gut it and put all new stuff in it, build a brand new one, or buy another Acer ?

There aren't as many commercially available parts for building Laptops. Your best bet would be to probably buy a whole new one.
