New build. No video. Possible mobo/cpu problem?
Hello everyone. I am enjoying the headaches of a first build over here.
I have read through most of this forum and the stickies like http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 So let's get down to business. Installed just the bare minimmum parts to try and diagnose the problem. When I press power the fans are working, the heatsink fan is working, fan on video card is working. No video at all. No beeps, no sound. I have cleared cmos, reset jumpers, taken out the little battery. Now, my motherboad does not have a connection for the monitor so I'm assuming no onboard video. That's why I have the monitor plugged into the video card but I'm afraid that maybe the motherboard doesn't recognize the video card. Is that even possible? The motherboard was laid on the anti-static bag for a few minutes (I didn't know this was bad!! but i do now) So is it possible I shorted the motherboard out? I noticed that 1 pin on the cpu is bent slightly. Can this be why i'm not getting anywhere? Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Specs.... Is the 4 pin Cpu auxillary power connector plugged in?

It could be something in the BIOS. Be sure you switch it to AGP if you haven't(if you could even).

With the motherboard out of the case, try to boot it up without the video card or RAM installed...you should get BIOS beeps indicating something is wrong. If you don't get any beeps you may be looking at a bad motherboard or CPU.
You might also want to try another power supply just to rule out the possibility of a bad power supply. Cricket

Thanks cricket, i will give that a shot.
Even though the fans are working it's possible that the power supply is bad? Quote:
