Keyboard/Interface Error
Hi everyone,
I just put together a computer for my nephews (it's meant to be a surprise gift early next week), booted it up for the first time, and watched my BIOS version being displayed, along with information about my CPU, hard drive, and DVD drive. So far so good. Just after that however I get the following two line message: /Keyboard/Interface Error Press F1 to Resume/ At this point I'm stuck Inputting F1 on my Dynex USB keyboard has no effect. I plan on trying to boot up with a PS/2 keyboard later this evening (I need to borrow one from my brother), but I have this sneaking suspicion that that won't solve the problem. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this? The mobo I'm using is an ASRock 939Dual-SATA2. Any and all input is most welcome.

What kind of keyboard is that Dynex?? I assume usb, and if so yes a PS2 will solve the problem. Usb mice and keyboards need 'legacy usb' enabled in the BIOS in order to work properly.. Although every new mobo I've bought has legacy usb enabled by factory default, cause of course if it weren't you could not get into the BIOS if all you have is a usb keyboard, but your on the right trac in that you need to try a ps2 so you can get to the BIOS settings and check things out..

Shoot... using a PS2 keyboard doesn't solve the problem. When I boot up the machine I see the following screen. I can't get past it because the machine doesn't appear to be accepting any keyboard input.
AMIBIOS(c) 2005 American Megatrends, Inc 939 Dual-SATA2 BIOS P1.20 CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3700+ (64 bit supported) Speed: 2.20 GHz Press F2 to run Setup Press F11 for Boot Menu Dual-Channel Memory Mode 1024 MB OK Keyboard/Interface Error Press F1 to Resume At the bottom righthand corner of my screen I'm also seeing the code 0085. I haven't a clue as to what I should try from here. |

With no keyboard I get the same message. I tweaked and tweaked and tweaked yesterday evening and all of this morning but still have the same problem with or without a keyboard
I sent off an email to the motherboard manufacturer and got a message in return saying it'll be forwarded to technical staff. I'm hoping I get some recommendations back early this week. Usually I've been able to google my way out of just about any problem, but this one I haven't been able to dig up any info on. It's frustrating.

Take the mobo out of the case and try it that way. You may have something contacting the mobo and shorting out the keyboard area. Someone else here had the same problem.

Ok. I'll give that a try next. I've really been tempted to chaulk it up to a bad mobo, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the problem turns out to be due to something of this sort. The possibility of a case short hadn't ocurred to me.
