the edit answered all my questions...

Have you tried it with just RAM, Video and power? You shouldn't need anything else...

EDIT: and now kendall just said the same! *bangs head on desk*

Time to try it out of the case with bare minimum components.. Is the cpu fan spinning?? Probably something simple, like something not seated proper, which is usually the case when you move components around..

I tried out of the case, Power to MOBO- CPU & HSF-one stick of RAM-video- and everything spins up. CPU fan runs and I get video but I can't get past the intel screen?

Check that nothing cracked or came loose on the CPU heatsink mounting while you were switching things around.

Sounds like BIOS settings are set to not see or boot from the harddrive. Only thing that comes to mind is to access the BIOS and check settings there and if you can not get screen access to the BIOS clear cmos manually via the jumper on the motherboard. I only mentioned the escape key cause I use it on a few PC's I've fiddled with to make to logo disappear so I could see the post and BIOS screens and access the BIOS, perhaps there is a different key to get the intel logo to go away and display the setup screens that you want to see and be able to access the BIOS..

I still can't get past the logo screen or get into Bios. I tried clearing the Cmos manually earlier. Do you leave the PC PSU plugged in to clear CMOS or unpplug it?
I had to get away from it for awhile I'll go back at it tommorow when my head is cleared. Thanks for the suggestions.

Unplugged.

On Intel motherboards there is a jumper that when set properly will automatically make the motherboard boot into the BIOS setup...have you tried changing this jumper yet?

OK I did it with the PSU unpplugged.
I did try that before I got it to boot from the XP CD but it didn't help at the time. If I remember correrctly it is with the jumper removed? I have it written down in the shop. I did get a series of beeps but I didn't count them. I'll give that another shot later.

OK I couldn't stand it anymore so I wewnt back out to the shop and cleared the CMOS again. I can get to "Press F2 to Enter Setup" but it won't go to setup. Could a bad battery cause this?

Yes, a bad/dead/dying battery could be the problem.
How old is the board?

I'm not sure if the battery is the problem because you can actually run the motherboard without a battery installed. If you have a new battery try replacing the current one and see what happens.

The board is ,maybe, a couple of years old. I'll swap out a battery and give that a try.

The P4 died? Wow, you don't hear about processors just dying too often.

It was a shocker to me also as it worked the day before. I checked for bent or broken pins with a magnifying glass but all looks well. That was the first Intel chip that I have had go bad.
