using old harddrive for O/S?
i'm trying to see if i can save a couple of bucks by using an old harddrive that has windows 98 on it, and then buying the XP upgrade. my question is, if i put that hard drive in a new computer, will windows still work? or is it tied in with the mobo or BIOS? thanks in advance.

If it came in a manufactured box like Dell or Hp, the liscense is only good for the original machine.
You might as well just buy the OEM version of XP which is actually cheaper than the upgrade version.

OEM = Orignal Equipment Manufacturer
Bascially it's Win XP without the frill - no fancy box or manuals, and no telephone support. Just the CD and key. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16837102059 Costs a bit less than the Retail Upgrade, and you won't need to have the old OS.
