new build, how does it look?

i want to build a new computer for my boyfriend and curious how this looks.
a lot of parts are similar to what i used to build my computer last year so i think it should be ok just want to confirm before buying stuff, and if i can cut back on cost anywhere please let me know

he doesn't really play games so i might want a different video card that is cheaper...?

i don't know much about LCD monitors, but i went with this one because it was 1600x1200 resolution (need one that allows this resolution for sure), i don't want to spend more than i have to on a decent monitor.

also could use a suggestion for a power supply

Looks good, however it's outdated. It would work, but you'd be limited on future upgrades.

Upgrade to LGA775 CPUs - Like the Intel 630, and a matching board (ASUS boards are a good choice). Also, go with a PCI-E video card and of course a matching board. If he isn't going to do much gaming, a X800GT or even a X700 might do the trick. Also, you should get a Dual channel kit for the RAM, what you have should work, but a dual channel kit is guaranteed to work in Dual Channel mode.

Oh, and you forgot the most important thing: the power supply. The choice here is very important. You want to get a good one from Antec, Enermax, FSP (Forton Source), Seasonic, or XClio to name a few...If you want to cut costs a bit, look at this case and power supply. It's an excellent case and has an excellent power supply.

I can't help you with the specific monitor, but I've heard good things about Samsung monitors.

You can certainly go with a cheaper graphics card if he doesn't game and the 21" LCD is a little overkill also. You have a very lucky boyfriend.
Have you considered going with a newer Socket T (775 pin) intel board with PCI Express graphics card?

Seems blue60007 beat me to it. I just did a build with that case. It is a quality case with a very nice PSU.

ABIT isn't a real good brand.
You can get a genuine Intel board with a newer chipset inn the same price range.
2nd best would be ASUS.

What are you talking about? ABIT, ASUS and INTEL are all about the same as far as quality is concerned. ABIT is a top tier manufacturer and an ABIT motherboard would be an excellent choice.

I personally don't care much for ABIT products. I have had problems with an ABIT board and found thier tech support to be pretty poor. I feel that both Intel and ASUS both have better websites where it is easier to find information that you need.
