comp is louder than usual

lately my comp has been getting kind of loud while running. I think its the case fan on top that might be the cause of this. I built the comp a little over a year ago, and everything is running fine, except for how its now running noticably louder. If I put a weighted object on top of the case, the loudness kind of dampens. Really, it just sounds like the fans are just going nuts. Anyone know what the cause might be and how to fix it?

Remove the fan from the case and run it and see how it is, it could be either the fan going bad, or since you said it dampens when an object is put on it it, could be the case making the noise...or both.

If its the fan, try pealing off the sticker and putting some oil in it (3 in-one works fine) and see if it quiets down.

Sounds like a bad fan to me also. When installing new fans, I like to use small rubber O-Rings ( can be found at any good auto parts store) between my fans and the case. They dampen vibration and are cheap.

What kind of sound is it? If it's a more of a roar, you might check for dust build up, that'll increase turbulence and noise.

It also might just need the mounting screws tightened.
