Look like a good build to me I would change that RAM plus it will save you some cash as well plus the X2 will give you all the power you need but you might wont to see what the veterans say about your build first before you listen to me. To me i think 2GB of Ram is over kill for a gameing machine.

Tests show that some games like battlefield 2 benefit from 2gb of RAM. It is a worthwile investment.
If possible try and go for a 7800GTX |

As far as the RAM goes, check the QVL for that motherboard at the ASUS website to be sure what you order is a compatible part number.

Is this the hard drive you want :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144421 Don't get this hard drive for an nForce4 motherboard the DiamondMax 10 (and 11) hard drives have on going incompatibilty problems with them. Switch to Western Digital or Seagate.

(4) AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0GHz / 1MB Cache / 2000MHz FSB / Socket 939 / Dual-Core (Manchester) / Processor with Fan
You don't need that for gaming. Single core will be your best bet. Go with the 4000+ or a 3700+, its much better for gaming. Dual-core is for multi tasking and with gaming.. you'll probably be only running AIM, Music player possibly in the background so its a waste for a dualcore, it actually might hinder performance unless game producers bring out patches for dual-core utilizeing it, and they have don't get me wrong, but its still a better choice to get a single core such as a 3700+ or a 4000+. |

That list looks very good. If you aren't sure about the HDD, Seagate is a good company.
For a little more, you could get a lot more power with a 7800GTX. As for the processor, a single core would do a very good job. I'd recommend the 3800+, since the gaming performance is about the same as my 4000+. I would also stick with 2GB RAM, but do make sure it is listed as compatible on asus.com for that motherboard. If you aren't sure it is compatible, go with Corsair. Last edited by Hitokiri; 01-17-2006 at 03:17 PM. |

This is no longer true. Oblivion, out on March 20, is coded to take advantage of a dual processor as are recent updates for COD2 and Quake4. AMD is now discontinuing it's single core processor line Read this for new developments : http://www.extremetech.com/article2/...1909497,00.asp You don't have to have a dual core cpu but it's going to be future insurance if you buy one. |
