Major PC Problems: HDD won't light up, no image.
I went to take a nap earlier about an hour or two ago, I wake up and turn on my monitor and see my desktop, but I am not able to move my mouse, or use the keyboard. I restart the computer, and the video on the monitor just shows the little self-test thing and to see wether my cable is in. It's all in propper but it's just not showing anything also the HDD led light or the power light don't light up (the green and yellow) at all. I look around inside and see if anything's wrong, but every connection is in right, I even took out the cable from the hdd that were connected through the fans and gave them their own power cables. I look around and take out the hdd ide cables and put another set in I had around, I turn the computer back on and get a low alarm sound. Kind of like the comp overheating but in a lower tone. The last time I checked my cpu temps were 42C and everything was fine. Does anyone happen to know what may be wrong, and why the power and hdd lights aren't lighting up? I went to sleep for like 40 minutes and this all happened.

Everythign seems to be responding, the USB mouse is connected and lit up, finally got the lights to work, fans are spinning, but it's the video that won't show up. I switched out two video cards and two monitors and it still didn't show up. I really need help, I have two computer science classes and need my computer to do the programming assignments, I am at the end of my ropes and am about to go out and get a new motherboard just in case.
Though I have one question, the HDD lite cord I flipped upside down because I'm not sure which is the + side and it stays lit up, is it supposed to be always on? I never noticed how it was lit up the other way though. Which side of the plug is +? Last edited by indigo0086; 01-17-2006 at 06:21 PM. |

I think it was a disloged capacitor. When I installed this blue orb fan, I had to push aside a few capacitors. I switched my 9800 with a radeon 9600 which doesn't require a power cord, and the fan doesn't turn on. It used to because I used the 9600 on the same motherboard a while back and it didn't have the current fan. I think I need a new motherboard.
