(very)Early stages of a newb build
Im pretty much a newb (I hate that word) to this, building computers. But Ive done abit of research and Id like to know what you think of a possible new system in the works. I want to use it for games, Flash, Photo Shop, and other such progs.
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811233002 PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103937 Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131524 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103539 HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144417 Pri Optical: not needed Sec Optical: not needed Sound Card: not needed Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130256 FDD: not needed Keyboard: not needed Mouse: not needed Modem: not needed Lan: meh Monitor: not needed Speakers: not needed OS: Not sure yet Extras: none that I can think of So my main concern is compatibility. As far as I know it all is, but like I said Im new to this so I may of overlooked something. Also, I may just use my current case to avoide the price of the one up there, still on the fence about it. I already have a dvd drive, cd-rom, monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, and floppy disk drive on my current system. I dont think there would be a problem switching em over to this new system, but I could be wrong. And the motherboard has the sound built in so I dont think a sound card is a main priority. And Id like to know what kind, and how many fans id need for this. I belive the case comes with 3 fans, but are these any good to actually rely on? |

Looks like a plan to me. As far as OS goes, XP Home should be more then fine unless you have some specal need for Pro. Contrary to what some people still say about XP Pro, you only need it if you know you need it. Otherwise Home will work just fine.
The only other thing I would say is that you might want to go with a power supply designed for SLI. The Antec 500W you have listed is more then good enough, but for the future it might be worth it to be totally ready for SLI, and those motherboards do have a rep for being a little picky about what PSUs they like. Oh before I forget, you double posted. Might want to delete the extra one.

This seems to be a nice build, everything is compatible. dont be worried about the fans, you have enought. Like Staren said for the OS, you can get XP home OEM editon (meaning it dosent come in a box, and cost less).
This PSU is sli ready, so its good, good luck with your build

That is a real good PSU and should be fine. It will let you add the 2nd video card for SLI if you ever get one.
One omission in your list is RAM 1MB (2 x 512) should be good for starters. Go to this page on the ASUS site and hit QVL download on the left side for the list of modules ASUS has certified for that board.

Oops, forgot the all important RAM. Check out that page Jay linked above for some ideas. I believe Corsair Value Select is on that list.
