New build - How does it look?
I am planning on doing my 1st build and wanted to check my parts. So here it is.
Case - Xion Solaris XON-404 Black w/ Blue LED PSU - Aspire ATX-AS600W-BL ATX12V/EPS12V 600W - Retail Mobo - Asus A8N-SLI Prem. Socket 939 nVidia nForce4 SLI ATX AMD - Retail CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz L2 Cache Socket 939 - Retail HDD - WD Caviar SE 80GB 3.5" Serial ATA150 - OEM RAM - Corair Value Select 1GB (2x512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR400 (pc 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit - Retail GPU - ASUS N6200/TD/128 GeForce6200 128MB DDR AGP 4x/8x Low Pro - Retail FDD - Sony MPF920 Optical Drives - not sure yet....any suggestions? I would like at least DVD-ROM and CD Burner. I don't really need DVD burner OS - Win XP Home I am also not sure on a sound card. I am not too concerned about sound as this will probably not be a gaming system so I was thinking I would just stick with the one on the mobo. I also plan on adding extra fans and some cold cathodes. |

Aspire power supplies aren't exactly know for quality - Get a quality power supply from Antec, Enermax, Seasonic, or FSP (Forton Source) (to name a few). Make sure to get one off the SLI-Certified list.

Much better. Antec is one of the best PSU companies and that one is certified. Lite-On makes real good optical drives.

Whoa...just missed something. You've got an AGP card there- you want a PCI-E one. Hold up a second - if this isn't going to be gaming machine, why are you getting an SLI board? Sorry for overlooking this, but I saw the bad power supply and jumped right to the post button.

Oops, I missed that. I'll look for a different card. I am going with an SLI board just in case the PS3 isn't up to my expectaions, then this will be a gaming system.

Ah. Then for the sound, the onboard sound will work fine for you.

the 6600 is not a gaming card. if the PS3 wouldnt satisfy u then u could only get the same card (6600) for SLI. the dual 6600 setup is not gonna be even a half-decent gaming setup. so ud have to throw away the existing card. u see where im going with this...
