Connecting a hard drive
Hi, I'm new. I just have a question:
How do I know if a hard drive will work with a certain motherboard? What are the different types of connections? Will this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131568 Work with this hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822136012 Why or why not? Thanks in advance. |

Welcome to PCMech!
Yes, that drive will work. It's a Serial ATA (SATA) connection, which means it has a smaller cord and faster transfer rate. The board specs say there are 6 SATA inputs. Older drives are Parallel ATA (PATA), and they use the wide flat IDE cable to connect - two drives per cable. Most optical drives (CD & DVD) also use this. There are two PATA connections for four devices total available.
